When the doctor prognoses her mother with cancer, Kate Winter´s world crumples. As her mother´s last wish is to die in Eden and for Kate to have a normal life. Kate moves back with mother to her childhood home of Eden. Kate enrols at Eden high school. At the first day of school she´s already making an enemy. Ava hates the fact that her boyfriend is constantly eyeing Kate and therefore she teaches her a lesson.
Ava brings Kate into the woods under the pretence of going with her to a bonfire, but it doesn’t work out as planned. Ava dies. Then Kate meets Henry. He claims to be the god of the underworld and to have the power to resurrect Ava. Henry gives her the opportunity to save Ava´s and her mother´s life under one condition. Kate has to overcome the seven sins, become the goddess of the underworld and his bride.
After reading the short summary of the book I really wanted to read it, because I have always liked Greek mythology. In The Goddess Test you have Hades, just a nice lonely guy searching for someone worthy to be by his side and rule the underworld and preferably someone who can love him. I love this character the most because he is totally different from what everyone thinks. Kate is the typical chick lit girl: pretty but not beautiful, nice but not popular, smart but no genius and so on. Kate is an okay character though sometimes she was a bit naïve. The ending was a bit confusing, but I could never put the book down. What I especially liked about this book is the mix of mythology, reality and fantasy.
